Gaia GREAT Plenary Meeting (PM7) @ EWASS 2014: Geneva 30 June -2 July 2014 - 1st Announcement

Dear All,

This is the first announcement for the next GREAT plenary meeting which
will take place within the EAS European Week of Astronomy and Space
Science (EWASS) in Geneva, 30 June - 04 July 2014.

The Plenary is consituted as a full EWASS Science Symposium
(no. 3). The Symposium element will run 30 June - 02 July 2014.

Full details can be found at: - where you will also find
the link to the registration page and the current programme and agenda
details. Registration is handled directly through the EWASS pages at with early
registration closing 15 Apr 2014. (After that date - the registration fee
rises - details on the registration page).

The Symposium nature of the Plenary allows for interested individuals
and groups to present new results and plans from activities carried out
within the context of the GREAT working groups and related activities.

This year, with the successful launch of Gaia (and as I write its final
insertion into its L2 orbit), will allow for presentations describing the
inflight performance of Gaia, and early returns from for instance the Gaia Alerts.

At this stage all those wishing to present are invited to signup with
some details of their talk or poster idea. There is a page for each of
the themed sessions linked from the meeting wiki at

Thus, choose which session most fits your presentation topic and add to
the page at:

Gaia Performance Evaluation & First Gaia Data: Symposium S3 - Session 2:
Focus science - Gaia Transients: Symposium S3 - Session 3
Focus science - Gaia Milky Way surveys and new instrument initiatives: Symposium S3 - Session 4: Gaia science highlights from the GREAT Working Groups: Symposium S3 - Session 5:
Focus science - The variable sky and exoplanets: Symposium S3 - Session 6:
Focus science - Gaia and Asteroseismology: Symposium S3 - Session 7:

Note that the final session 7 covering Gaia and Asteroseismology acts as an introduction to the following EWASS Special Session 2 - Helios and Helium: what is wrong with them ?.

All submissions received by Fri 9th May 2014 will be considered, with
the final programme being drawn up and published by Mon 19th May 2014.

Note - if you are having trouble adding directly to the wiki pages -
then send your details by email to great at

The outline agenda (and eventual full programme) is on the meeting wiki page at

Note - the EAS provide some support to attend the meeting - for details
of that please see - look under 'Grant

Looking forward to seeing you all in Geneva later in the year.
